I wrote a play...how do I get it published / produced?

I recently wrote a play production, I was wondering what the steps might be to get it produced big time, such a broadway, or even a off broadway production? Thanks,

You may want to start on a local level- at a theatre in your city. Often these theatres are happy to allow new and original works by local writers. This will allow you to test the material in front of audiences, to see what works and what doesn't.

I have been a part of several new plays as an actor. You will probably want to collaborate with an experienced director who can help you hone and stage the material effectively. You may (for length or other reasons) find that cuts in the play will be necessary. Also, the actors will really help flesh out and enrich the characters.

You will be able to videotape the show and have something to send to prospective producers and publishers. Good luck.

I have never done this before, but I would probably start sending your play to people who are looking for plays to produce. There are tons of people who read thousands of plays a day hoping to find the one (which is yours i assume! haha) Also, if you have ever seen the movie/play The Producers, when they send their play to producers, they make tons of money. Another way is publishing it as a book, and then people may want to produce the book. I'm not so good at this by Good Luck!

First off, look in bookstores for books on how to get screenplays published. They have good advice from real actors/actresses and people who have written plays themselves.
