One time my hairdresser cut my bangs to short and I was really mad. I cried. I felt like I just looked terrible. You have your hair the way you like it. You've established a look and if someone without consulting you cut you hair, then you would probably be mad too. I don't go to that hairdresser anymore, but I was really mad. I had to pull them back forever because they looked bad.
PS People sign up for that show because they want to be a model. Not everyone gets their hair changed dramatically, just some, so they take the chance of not getting it changed. They may not want their hair cut, but they want to be a model.
PPS You should rephrase your question to "Why do people cry when the get a BAD haircut?" If women cried after they got their hair cut, it would make no sense. It doesn't hurt or anything and hairdressers would be out of business.

If you get a bad hair cut, it takes a long time to grow out. We develop an emotional attachment to our hair. I used to always cry when my Dad cut my hair when I was a kid. Many years later, I realized it was probably because he was not very loving about how he cut it. He didn't like the way I looked with my very thick, frizzy hair, so he would attack my hair with the scissors.
I still haven't had very many good hair days in the past 40 years! Right now I'm upset about my horrible hair cut.
There may be other psychological things at work. Supposedly, some small children get scared when potty training! They feel they've "lost" something! Maybe losing hair is a similar experience. Even when you "sign up" for a haircut on a TV show -- the haircuts on TV are often very extreme, so it is a terrible shock.
I always wished people could be like the old Tressie dolls -- push the button, and grow your hair out!

I watch the show, too. To start, some women are very emotional. Hair is held with memories from childhood, and to some people, hair is something not worth letting go of. Secondly, they had no idea that that the judges would choose to chop all of their hair off! Thirdly, the ones who cry/whine probably like their hair long, or at least a medium length.
Hope I helped! ;)

Because if your hair is that long naturally, it's been long for a VERY long time. I'm cutting off a lot of my hair soon for locks of love and I don't think I'll cry, but I will be upset. I've had long hair all my life..You just get attached to it.

it's the shock of the transformation, and if you have natural long hair and someone cuts 8-10 inches off your hair, it's short, your neck gets cold, and it's part of our idenities.
I don't know why people sign up for it and cry and biotch over it.
It's not a model competition, it's a reality show!!!
Tyra knows who she wants to win, and has the final say.
sometimes I DO think they take long natural anglo hair and just chop it off for ratings!
other hair is often used to being weaved.
I know that one girl who left over the too short hair incident, did leave and got weaves until her hair grew back.
Change is traumatic to some, who's idenity is wrapped up in their locks.

That's a really good question. I have had my hair long, blonde, red purple, green, a mohawk and more hair cuts gone bad that I care to mention. Funny thing, it has always grown back...

When I cut my hair...it was down to my waist and honestly I was glad to get it cut off! Imagine my surprise when my little girl ( who was three at the time) freaked out when she saw me and burst into tears!! Now she refuses to cut her hair...anyway, I don't know why people do that...afraid of change, afraid they won't like it, maybe they
feel like it is a part of them and they don't want to let it go...in any case, it does grow back!!

i guess some people hate to have to leave their long hair behind. if they were growing it for a really long time it might be some sort of accomplishment. dont ask me why, but some people are just like that. have a great day :]

most people have to condition themselves into doing something such as a haircut. basically, prepare themselves. in our environment- we think about the cut- call and schedule- therefore, we wre more prepared. on the show u r referring to, they are told about the haircut on a last minutes notice- that is just scary to some people.
