I think it is just a phase. Teens go through it with their friends (they prioritise their friends ahead of family) and then when we're older, we make the same mistake again with our bfs/gfs. I think most people grow out of it and then there is always the saying "blood is thicker than water".

You don't. It is a different kind of caring. We tend to take parents for granted, and yet, they are always there.
It sounds as if your boyfriend has hurt you. Just remember that boyfriends and girlfriends come and go, but parents are forever. take a minute to tell your parents that you appreciate them. You might be surprised how much it will mean to them.

"...and for this cause shall a man leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife." - quote from the Holy Bible.
It is natural for us to move beyond our nuclear families in search of a mate. What needs to be balanced with nature is our response to the attractions we encounter in persuit of that natural impulse. Blood is thicker than water. A few relationships gone wrong quickly teaches that lesson. "Honor your mother and father," is also a commandment we do well to follow.

it is a totally different love, a parents is unconditional. you have to mature to realize that there is all kinds of love in the world. as you grow older and mature you tend to look at things and people and relationships differently

Because of Hormones that is why. If it were not for hormones civilization as we know it would die off. I do agree with you that some people are just treating their family members with such disrespect.
