the key word is >reliable<. never did i say it has to be a proven absolute conceptual fact, in the context we speak of, that dosnt exist. reliable though? i believe that anything that has been varified by historians and scientists from the enlightenment era and beyond is 'reliable'.

Because they didn't really happen. It's all just religious superstition.

When do you consider to be the beginning of reliable recorded history. The fact that we read the accounts shows that history was recorded. There are also many references outside of the bible that confirms what is in the bible such as the Roman historian Josephus who mentions Jesus. Also archeology confirms the accounts of the bible.
The ark was made from wood and hasn't been used for about 4,400 years so it shouldn't be all that surprising that it's not in some museum. Although, many witnesses throughout history have reported seeing the ark. The conditions are favorable for preservation.
We don't see women morphing from rib cages today because God only needed to do it once.
There is ample evidence for a global flood. Where did all the fossils come from? Why don't we see fossilization happening now in recent times?
Convenience, I suppose.

Have you ever read or watched "Animal Farm"? to say that never happened is a false statement. No, animals really didn't take over a farm. but the farmer and the animals all SYMBOLIZED something that really did happen and is recorded in "true, reliable History" pick up any history book, its there. Same holds true for these "insane biblical stories" Take the Fall of Man, it tells a story about going from one lifestyle to another, from living in "paradise" where food is readily available to working the ground and breaking a sweat to produce food, and it is in history books too. only in today's culture it is referred to as the agricultural revolution. If you are reading these "insane biblical stories" and don't see the evidence in history then you are taking them too literally. because that is what they are, stories. but like Animal Farm, they do tell a part of history.

Since you've already made up your mind and ask only to try and make Christians look foolish I suppose telling you archeology more and more verfies the Biblical record would be a waste of time. By the way "reliable recorded history" is a loaded phrase. It implies there is nothing reliable before the printed word and today's known science. That, in and of itself indicates a lack of knowledge about the history of our planet and the great civilizations that existed before printing was invented.

By your standards at least 75% or better of history can not be proven.
Take for instance Ceaser or Nero, or for that matter you couldn't prove the Revolutionary War happened with your standards.
You need to do a little research my friend , and not just use the old addage "Well so and so said so," or "you know what I heard."

It's because a story that is told normally grow with each telling. I have no doubt that there are true elements at the source of the stories. But after thousands of years of word of mouth, we have to get the meaning behind the story rather than accept the story as told as a historic account.

Hey Doug - what exactly is GOPHERWOOD anyways?? Thats what theh Ark is allegedly made of - yet gopherwood doesnt exist. So, whats that about finding the ark??
If you really want to laugh, go read up on Lourdes, France. There, many many miracles took place - until 1950 when they set up a medical review board to test these alleged miracles. Since then.....not a single one. Go figure.

EXCELLENT INTELLIGENT QUESTION ! NOONE KNOWS WHAT JESUS LOOKED LIKE YET IN CHILDRENS BOOKS THERE ARE PICTURES OF JESUS AND THE REST OF THE GANG. JOSEPH, MARY ETC. WHEN I WAS YOUNG THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER SAID MEN HAD ONE LESS RIB BECAUSE GOD MADE WOMAN OUT OF A MANS RIB. THAT IS TOTALLY WRONG , WOMEN AND MEN HAVE THE EXACT SAME NUMBER OF RIBS. THE STORY ABOUT THE ARK IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS ! DINOSAURS I SUPPOSE BECAME EXTINCT BECAUSE THEY COULDNT SQUEEZE THEM IN OR MAYBE LOADED JUST ONE. LOL LOL !
