Working in a hospital is very challenging. Don't always believe what you see on T.V. It is not the real thing. We work very long hours, anywhere from 60-70 a week. That is almost double of a full time employee. We usually only get 30 paid vacation, 15 sick days, and 5 PTO days. Most doctors make anywhere between 150,000-600,000 per year. We also have to pay for malpractice insurance, but the hospital gives us salaries increases for that. If you want the biggest challenge go to the ER or surgery. The least of the challenges is OB/GYN they see the same things everyday. We also hate being on call. Having to be on call is the worst every time you want to lay down you get called. To grow as a doctor you must work very hard. You must try your hardest in you field. You constantly have to read and try new types of medicines. The more you do that the more money you will make. You can write us anytime we are a set of 5 doctors from Surgery, Anaesthesiology, ER,Neurology, and Cardiology.

Working in a hospital would be AMAZING. I am a high school junior...but i volunteer at a local hospital. I've wanted to be a doctor since before I can remember. I think working in a hospital is better than working in a clinic. Hospitals give more opportunities for exploring and have more exposure to diverse patients form various backgrounds. Because if you think about it....hospitals are open to people of the community. Clinics are a little different, the patients that come to a clinic are often not as diverse and the environment may seem a little less "exciting" than in a hospital.

I think the ER is the best place to be in a hospital...kinda morbid, I know....but really, it is very exciting. I learned so much there just from watching.

After finishing residency (and all that regular stuff needed to get rolling) doctors useually affliate themselves to medical socities. the APA, AHA, ACS are some examples. "Growing" as a doctor is not as difficult as people make it seem. I've heard it was common for doctors to get a higher dergee of MPH in addition to their fellowship(s) and board exam(s).

I can let you know more once I get there.....but you'd have to wait another 10 years atleast.

good luck with everything
:))

working in a hospital is quite a difficult task.. you have to be on the guard always with your patients. there are times when you have to do lots of things on them and you barely have the time to eat or worst, no sleep at all..

it is very rewarding though if a patient gets better and says thank you.. or just that simple smile..

how do you grow? i think being a doctor is a continuous learning process, you have to open your mind to all the new possibilities in treatment especially with the advancing technology. you should also learn to ask your peers. never be afraid to say you don't know and ask for help. remember, it's a patient's life on the line here.
