It depends on the nature of the injury.
There are some injuries with which you cannot return to active duty - for example, the loss of a hand. Then there are some injuries where you can return to active duty but most likely will need to go into a different career field.
These days, a lot of lower-leg amputees are choosing to remain on active duty and are allowed to do so. There's been big improvements in lower-leg prosthetics (the computerized C-leg) so that a person can walk, run, etc. with the prosthetic leg.
If you do a Google search you can find a number of articles of soldiers who've returned to duty. There's a book by Captain David Rozelle called "Back in Action", which tells his story of loosing a leg in Iraq and going back to resume command of his unit after rehabilitation.

"you wouldn't go into war and fight you would most likely become a guy who does the support you know like the computer work recruiting training etc." --- Give me a bloody break, what do you think the military is?? I am a Spanish Linguist and yet here I am in the middle of a war! It doesn't matter what your "job" in the military is, they will still send you here if they need/want to.
As for staying in after getting injured, it depends on the extent of your injury and whether it renders you incapable of doing your job.

Depending on the severity of the wound of course would depend on whether or not you can stay in. I've seen people with a leg blown off below the knee still serving. They are just wearing a prosthetic. If nothing else, I am sure you can do some sort of clerical work. We need more people like you in uniform !

I've been hearing an ad on the radio recently about someone her is flying Air Force jets after losing a leg. I suppose that means its possible. What jobs you could have would probably be determined on a case by case basis.

The old adage is it takes two eyes to get in the military but it only takes one to stay in. There are many soldiers that are in the military that have one kidney, one leg or one hand. The military has become quit lenient about this in recent years.

You could probably still be in the military, you would just have to take leave of absence while you recover.
