Because America is not a perfect country, never has been, and never will be, but it is a great nation like none that has ever existed. It is a nation of immigrants who came here rich and poor, of every ethnic, racial, and religious background imaginable, yet we have blended into a melting pot of ideas and traditions. It is a place where even someone born into the poorest of conditions can aspire to be someone, ... and with hard work, actually achieve the highest status. It is a place where free speech is honored, and equality, though not always guarenteed, is the goal that we strive to achieve. It is also a great nation which has put the lives of it's own heroes on the line to ensure that the world would always have a safe haven from tyranny.

yes I am and for many good reasons.
First off because we have our freedom and our rights.
You can dress the way you want to dress.
Say what ever is on your mind even about your government with out getting killed for saying it.
If your a women you don't have to worry about your parents picking your husband out for you.
You can have more than two kids
If anything big comes out on in the stores you always know America will see it before any other country will.
The women here are not treated like house keepers.
There's always something going on here and something to do or go do.
I could go on and on about why I'm proud to be an American.
I don't care what others think of us Americans because if they think living here is that bad then why are there still more people coming here from other countries other than the fact that they know that they can make lots of money here.

Frankly, I'm not. I just live here.
My reasons? There's the America you think you live in while watching the news and going to work every day, which is cool, we all have to work and get the stuff we need.
But then there's the other America you see when from a lifetime of service to country, from war. When you get to be the political force of will for your country, even though you know it's wrong and the whole thing is a massive scam.
Like every other country, America has great cultural potential and CAN be a great society. But really the only thing we've got up on the rest of the world, is our money. The freedoms that we take for granted are an illusion, because truly we're only free to do as they tell us.
In all truth, in all reality, the answer to 1984 is 1776.

We are the land of opportunity. No matter who you are you CAN make it with hard work, ingenuity and other factors. There is opportunity for success, not a guarantee though
We have welcomed immigrants (legal ones) and incorporated their cultures into ours. We have a uniquely "American" culture, language and country which is so because of a blending/melting pot of all sorts of people.
We have a stable government that transitions peacefully every time we elect a new prez.
Our ingenuity and capitalism has created a market, products and opportunites that are simply not available (or the same in general) in most other places in the world.
Our way of life, our principles our freedoms.
And lastly, the fact that our greatness has not been that we're the best at eveything (although we are in many things) or everything is great, but that we recognize our faults and strive to make our country better.

This is one of the few countries where everyone has a chance to get ahead. There are no barriers that You must face like in Europe or Asian countries. The class movement from poor to wealthy can be made by anyone that finds something good. Look at Bill Gates and so many others that were not wealthy but used their smarts to get to the top of the heap. I did not get much training or education but managed to carve out a pretty good life and prepare my children for an even better life. That is why I am Proud of this country. Those who served this country without question deserve our support to gain victory instead of throwing in the towel.

I am unable to be proud due to my religion but I am happy to be American only because I was born here. I am third generation immigrant, Polish, German then alittle Slovak and Mut. My grandparents both fought in American Wars and my Uncle stepped on a land mine during Vietnam, his soldier no longer salutes but other then that he is fine. I have found America uses hypnosis at our schools and welfare departments and I have found Americans to be spoiled cry babies. You people only think of yourself and think, just because your in the military, that you are patriotic. I am in no way implying that joining the military is not admirable but most people join because they can't afford college and then think they are patriotic. Ohh, I found they use hypnosis at V.A. hospitals. I assume you expect some very patriotic song or poem to sit and stare at as you really don't give a cra* about anything or anyone but this is only verified by YOU not doing anything.
Enjoy your day and I am happy that you can suppress all the hardships within the world with your husband fighting so you can cam with another man.

Loved yor answer, Revolver. I'm an 8th or 9th generation American on the "white" side, 10,000 years on the ndn heritage.
My pride in this new upstart country stems from my ability to welcome the newer Americans willing to take pot luck in countinuing a worthy country. I hold my freedom of expression most precious and cite the availability of the internet which allows total strangers to communicate with one another. Here I can ask questions of tribal elders and my younger peers on life, the Universe and everything.

I'm not any prouder to be an American than I would be if I lived in a third world nation. I believe that no matter what nationality, we are all human, and that if we separate ourselves from other people and act as though we are better than them, it leads to hate. I would much rather live in a world where the only loyalty we had was to each other and humanity, where the world was united under one government.
Americans may have lots of freedom, but so do other nations.
I am against any kind of nationalism and patriotism is definitely nationalism.
Americans are generally wasteful and proud and obnoxious. European countries are far ahead in many ways in terms of social freedoms, environmental responsibility, and unity.

This is the greatest country on earth. We have a true republic government, we have a constitution and bill of rights. We need to fight to save this republic from evil men as we were warned by our forefathers. The time has come. Be a patriot!
LINCOLN said "Study the Constitution!"
"Let it be preached from the pulpit,
proclaimed in legislatures, and
enforced in courts of justice."
