About $10 per square foot for a ballpark starting figure.

For an average basement, I think that's a great price. I just finished doing mine myself and spent a little over $10,000 which was my estimate. I have heard though that by contracting each piece to a specialist, you can save a lot of money over just telling someone to do your basement. Get a plumber first for maybe $500. Then call an electrician for $1500, then a drywall guy for a couple thousand, and a painter for another $500. Much cheaper done piece-meal like that.

Thats not very much for a basement to be finished, but where you live is a factor in your cost to get the work done. Also if you get economy fixtures versus getting high end ones. I would reccomend getting alteast a 3/4 bath over a half bath.
A little advise on paying your contractor. Dont pay more than half before they start work. And hod atleast 25% until everything is done and done to your satifaction level.
good luck

the folk who bought our previous abode budgeted $30,000 to end the basement right into a living section.. The sq. pictures replaced into approximately 450, so approximately $sixty seven/squarefeet. This replaced into for an easy/economic device job - they weren't by potential of any stretch going for a luxurious job.
