Is it nessasary to lift the engine to replace the oil pan gasket on a 1985 4x4 Dodge Ramcharger w/ a 318 and stock oil pan? Or will the pan clear the oil pick up and cross member?

Well I just finished the job and you do not have to lift the engine. But it is a puzzle to get it out. Thank you for those of you who answered logically and accurately. And for those OTHER answers, this wasn’t an opinion oriented question, it was a fact and actual knowledge question if you don’t know don’t answer, or say I don’t know. P.S. I wrote this because I would like to seriously rate one or more of these answers and I'm unable to.

Try tightening up the existing pan bolts, using torque wrench. This eliminated the leak on my 1985 318.

on some of those models, the stearing cross over rod needs to be removed, and then the pan would come out.
It's best you call the dealer service center, and doubble check.
