Hi - I'm sorry about your OCD! I've got it too, and I wouldn't take the medications until I got on them for depression, because for some reason taking depression meds seemed a lot better than taking OCD meds (hmmm....) BUT - the thing I noticed most, is they worked so well for anxious thoughts. Maybe it was just because that was the part of OCD that bothered me most... but after a few days on the meds, it was like, oh my god... I'm not worrying anymore! It was fabulous. I mean, for me it's still there a bit but not nearly as distressing or disabling. It was pretty amazing.
So, my advice: take the meds! I'm on simple prozac, and that works great for me. I so, so, so wish I'd gotten over the stupid psych meds stigma and taken these pills years ago!
Best wishes to you - I hope something works out for you.

My husband had severe OCD> he couldn't function normally on a daily basis, some days he couldn't leave the house. He went to 3 different doctors over 2 years, and was put on several types of medication. None seemed to help and had bad side effects. He has been on Luvox for 4 years, rarely sees a doctor, has no side effects, but most importantly, leads o very normal life now. It took a while for it to get in his system and work, about two weeks. If he misses a few doses you can tell. If a medicine isn't working for you, try another, everyone's chemistry is different, but keep seeking professional advice untill you find a solution. Take care of yourself and get the most out of your life, enjoy it.

Hello Le Petit. OCD is caused by a brain dysfunction. This is the scientific explanation. The spiritual explanation is that the person has spirits attached that induce him/her to have destructive thoughts. Medicines should diminish your symptoms. It is good that you go to a doctor for getting diagnosed and treated. It is important to be diagnose since I also have anxious thoughts and I was not diagnose with OCD but depression and anxiety. Could you describe your anxious, destructive thoughts? How many times a day, week do you have them?....please write: Argentox2@yahoo.com

your theripist should be able to answer these questions for you. if you just started therapy, dont worry too much yet. you could end up not needing any medication at all. btw, kudos on recognizing that you needed help, some people wouldnt and would just keep on living a destructive life. be sure you bring up all these thoughts you shared in this question with your therapist, they can help you answer all these questions in the way that would help you best! best of luck!
