Canadians often do not like American politicians and the decisions that they make. But then again, many Americans don't like their current government policies and actions. And you should not take offense...we don't like our own politicians either!
Individual Americans are generally respected and liked in Canada. We are like the pleasant neighbours who invite you over for coffee.
Most of my countrymen also know that it does not pay to be anti-American or anti-anyone. If you are coming here for a visit, you are likely to spend your hard earned dollars here too, and that's good for our economy.
You should not be afraid to cme to Canada. You did not mention where in Canada you were going to visit. You may have a bit of an issue if you come to Quebec, not because we don't like Americans, but because all of the signs are in French. However, most of the shopkeepers, hotel staff, and people you would run into have some English knowledge and should be able to help you out.
Have a good trip!

Not to worry, come and have a good time. Canada and the USA are very similar other than our governments, flags and money. Walk down main street in any city or town and you won't see much of a difference. And don't worry about the politics, lots of Canadians are against American policies but lots are supportive as well. Because your dollar is worth more than ours, you might find some bargains here though normally prices for things in Canada are much higher than in the USA. If you visit as a tourist May - Sept. are the best months to travel as far as weather goes.

14 Million Americans come to Canada each year spending $7 Billion. By far the largest country of origin of our tourists. If we weren't friendly and didn't treat Americans (or anyone) like guests I don't think the number would be that high.
Just be your friendly self and you will do fine. We tend to disagree with some of the US politics and policies, but when you meet individuals and chat one on one you find you have more in common and more to like about them than otherwise. This is my experience with tourists coming to Canada, this is my experience traveling to the US and around the world.

It's America I don't like, not individual Americans...
Well, at least not the sort of American who wants to travel to Canada.
And, wait. I did live in the States for a few years, and for all my complaints, found things to like about it.
Travel-wise, I wouldn't worry. You may get an odd joke, but I don't know anybody who holds individual Americans responsible for the sort of problems Canadians tend to complain about, US-wise. You'll be a welcome guest.
I think most Canadians who live in cities meet visiting Americans pretty routinely, too. It's not as though you'd be some sort of novelty object. And most have American friends and/or relatives. An interesting question, though.

Canadians are very very very polite. As a rule, they will not be rude or ridicule you to your face. Canadians are more reserved than friendly ... but they ARE very nice and very polite, and often times helpful as well. You should have no problems.
Canadians seem to get their jollies by making fun of Americans, seems to be the national past time. (just watch a little Canadian TV and the Comedy Channel or talk to Canadians on here). However, they won't do it to your face, they will be very very polite. :)

Don't worry... we Canadians are very friendly people and do not outcast anyone..
politics is politics... we all have different views....
we don't discriminate against people for their political views....so you don't have to worry about being targeted because you are American...
Enjoy Canada... it has a lot of offer....

I guess it depends who you talk to. Most Canadians are polite to tourists.
Personally I like Americans. Enjoy your visit.

You are more than welcome here. As previously stated by others here, it's American policy that some Canadians take exception to, not the American people. Come visit us and have fun. The Welcome Mat is out!!
