Brushing your dog's teeth with people products can cause serious digestive problems. Go to the vet or a good pet shop and buy pet toothpaste. It even comes in doggy friendly flavors.

You should only use toothpaste made for dogs. Human toothpaste is different in lots of ways. First of all, because humans know not to swallow the toothpaste, it's not good for anyone (or anything) to swallow a lot of. Since dogs don't know any better, they will swallow the toothpaste which can, at the very least, upset their stomachs. Also, since dogs are usually not that cooperative for toothbrushing, dog toothpaste is enzymatic. All you have to do is brush is on the teeth (no scrubbing at all) and the enzymes do the work for you.
You should also only use a toothbrush made for dogs because the bristles are much softer than those of a human toothbrush.
Good luck!

It's great you want to brush the teeth but there is special tooth paste made for dogs.
Human tooth paste can be harmful. Go to your vet and pick up some toothpaste for dogs. They even come in flavors like vanilla mint ( which I use on my dogs)

No - Dogs don't spit out their toothpaste like humans do (or are supposed to!). They would be swallowing too much floride and other detergents and such that make the teeth clean but aren't good for the stomach (dogs or humans!). The price is about the same per tube, so you might as well do what is best for your pooch!

Do not use "human" toothpaste on dogs as it can be toxic to them. There are several different dog toothpastes available and the dogs like the taste. I use Oxyfresh dog toothpaste in chicken flavor. Their breath smells fresh after using this toothpaste.

No. The flouride in toothpaste isn't meant to swallowed, and your dog isn't going to spit the toothpaste out.
If you want to brush your dog's teeth get a toothpaste specially formulated for dogs.
