The US and the Russians already have this technology in the 80s. So this technology is nothing new. Yes, China does have that capability, and yes it would be a HUGE threat to the US military because just about every smart weapon that the US has depends on GPS. Cruise Missiles wont work. JDAMS, tactical ballistic weapons, and more. The US would have to resort to carpet bombing again. It would knock the US military back at least 20 years.

YES, the spy satellites of course fly lower than others. One of the big problems is the idea of the fragments staying in orbit and acting as shrapnel to other satellites. Of course the idea has always been to keep weapons out of space, but the rest of the world has no oversight of what China or any other nation puts up there, so there may already be space-based weapons and satellite killers in orbit. They have been blinding the US spy satellites with lasers. For all the hoopla over that, in the early 1990's a Russian "fishing trawler" (surveilance vessel) off the Washington coast blinded an American fighter pilot with a laser and he had to eject as a result (blinded), but that got little attention. China makes most of our stuff these days, and since tehy had the run of Los Alamos and most of our major labortories and universities, I doubt we have any technological secrets from them, I don't think they are relying on our GPS satellites because we could shut them down to deprive them of their use.

Yes, hopefully we have a whole "Star Wars" system in place

Best think about some other issues. I would not like to say. Let's just get on with each other on here and hope the world follows suit.
