You must relax. Try not to be nervous.

Stand still. Close your eyes. Clear your mind. Take 3 or 4 slow, deep breaths.

Relax your neck and shoulders.

Slowly....let your head droop over like a rag doll, and rotate your head...slowly...around in a circle.

I'm trying to help you relax.

I've been playing guitar for my whole life, and I still get a little nervous before going on stage, even though I know exactly what I'm playing.

Don't worry so much.

Relax.

That shows you lack confidence in your abilities. Everyone gets nervous from time to time but shaking so bad you can't play well means somehow you need to get used to playing in front of people. If your worried about missing notes an getting out of time, you need to realize everyone playes badly at first, and from time to time no matter who you are. Thats just part of being human. Thats why in a recording studio even the best musicians have to play something over an over till they get it right. Also, if you know the piece of music, your familiarity with it will lessen the nervous feeling, and just comes with practice. So don't worry to much.

Practice Practice Practice.....

Also, just concentrate on what you are playing. Try not to look or think about the other people around you. Pretend you are playing or by yourself in your own world. Or if you have to look up, look OVER the people out there.

Try smaller audiences, friends, family etc and work your way up.

being a gigging musician, i had a similar problem early on. most important is a positive breathing cycle. deep, slow breaths usually help me before going on stage. its also very helpful to be as familiar with the piece of music that you are performing as possible. that helps the confidence and eases the nerves. oh, and practice practice practice.

Just remember its fun. I get neervous too, but its not a big deal. Just do your best and BREATHE. Focus on keeping your shoulders relazed. Thats where the tension comes from.
