Let me first applaud you for being a great single mom. Being a mom is the hardest job in this world and even harder if your single. The first thing you should do for you is Pray (if i't's something you do). Next try and talk to them. If possible during dinner if not before they go to bed. Ask them as calmly as possible how they are doing, did they have a good day and so on. Please NO MATTER what they say, keep calm (you can scream into a pillow later). Keep your cool. Ask them if anyone is bothering them in school, if they are feeling stressed with school work or the fact that all the other kids they know are changing and/or acting differently. Then ask them how they feel about it. Keep an open mind and while you are calm ( which will make them see that you truly are there for them as you've always said). If they are having trouble in school email the school immediatley explaining the situation and that you would like more info and proceed in taking the steps to find a solution for that problem. They are also experiencing mood swings. (Boys are not any better trust me I have a 14yr old son!). Even if you have to sacrifice a day from work to take your daughters on "girls day out" with them making some suggestions on where they would like to go will also help the object is to get them to talk. If your on a budget like so many, try to come up with something inventive like spending the whole day having a "slumber" party with just the three of you. Then let them know that you love them and what you expect of them. Tell them the truth about how hard it is to be a grown woman and how hard you work. Keep talking. It does work. Because I do it with my three children. I'm not saying it's easy because some of the stories they tell of what's going on in school can and will leave you speechless. But by talking even while you guys are rushing around getting ready for your day every morning does help. Also when they act up. Ask out loud Do you need a hug? Do you need to hear that I love you? And just do it. Because I truly believe that a lot of times they just need us,their moms, to just hold them. And because they think that it may be "babyish" they don't say it outloud and this is something they do NEED. My prayers are with you guys. But because I see your question here I KNOW you guys will get through this phase together, and you know what you deserve it! Good Luck! I hope that something that I have written here, no matter how small, can help you guys.

At 14, this may really be a testing situation, but you have a very short time to set them back on the right path. A great Idea for this would be to go on a combination Roadtrip/camping trip. Find some really difficult Hiking trails, Look for a State or National Park that has a Good Guide service for say a two day hike. Let this guide know of your dilema as they can arrange a level of difficulty
that would force the three of you to really, work together and lean on eachothers strength's. You would be surprised at the End result. and the Road trip allows good bonding time to discuss the experience and maybe just Hang out and be on the same level.
The most important thing here is to GET INVOLVED, Find actitvities that require the three of you to just hang out and have some fun. A ball Game, Skating, Camping, Hiking, even just a Girls night out; but get involved.
