You walk up to a mountain that has two paths. One leads to the other side of the mountain, and the other will get you lost forever. Two twins know the path that leads to the other side. You can ask them only one question. Except! One lies and one tells the truth, and you don't know which is which. So, What do you ask?

You are missing the part that says that the twins are guarding the path. The truthful one is guarding the path to the other side of the mountain, where as the false one is guarding the path to, well, destruction.
You are supposed to ask one of the brothers (it does not matter which one) to point to their path, or to lead them down their path it does not really matter.

If I ask your brother, "Is this the path to the other side of the mountain", what will he say.
If the answer is YES, take the other path.

the lier would say that path and the one that tells the truth would also say that one and you would take the other path
