I am auditioning for a soprano part in the musical "Zombie Prom". What are some good songs to audition with? I'd rather not do something that is really overdone. I also don't have much music to choose from. Is there perhaps a website out there that allows for free sheet music downloads for musicals?

You have asked two different questions here ... I would re-ask the qustion about downloading music in the Internet section. However, I know there are, indeed, lots of places you can get free music.

One source of free music, however, is your local library. They are guaranteed to have lots of scores from musicals and you might be able to find something nobody else has done much, especially if they have a brand-new book of, like, "2006 top Broadway hits" or something.

Another idea is to find an old film musical, like "Easter Parade" or something, and choose one of its songs. Pretty much everybody at your school is going to be singing stuff from, like, "Wicked" or "Phantom" or something. So something from the 50's or 60's would be great.

If you could pull off something crazy, like a song from "Hair," or "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," that might get you noticed .... but you'd have to be pretty wacky.

My best recommendation is "Nothing" from "A Chorus Line." It has some slightly higher parts in it, it's currently being resurrected on Broadway, and it has lots of good juicy things to act out. Plus, your library will probably have it!! (If not, ask them about "inter-library loan" -- most libraries will do this)

Break a leg!

I'm not familiar with Zombie Prom. (Is that about some zombies who graduated from high school, dancing?) But for the sake of auditioning, I'd suggest The Watermelon Crawl, Climb Every Mountain, How Great Thou Art, Immortal Mind The Potter Is,
Pop Goes My Heart and Amazing Grace.

Find a song from a musical that has the same characteristics as the character you are auditioning for.
Hope this helps
