My friends want to go get drunk on saint patties day, but i dont drink so i'll probably end up being the designated driver. Im just a lil worried about somethings:

what happens if we're at the party and the cops come? will i get in trouble for anything if i havent had anything to drink?

what happens if i get pulled over and my friends are drunk? would i get in trouble for that either?

I obviously dont get out much, but that's better than getting busted and not getting out at all.

so if the police do come to the party, is it better to run or just deal with it?

These laws don't vary state to state so this is easy.

If you are underage at a party with alcohol you could be charge for MIP (Minor In Possession). If you're going to be the designated driver than you just would want them to call you and then you pick them up.

If you are pulled over while your friends are drunk then no you would not get in trouble because you are just transporting drunks not being one. However if they have alcohol in the car then you would get in trouble.

Now don't listen to the people on here that tell you that if you're not drinking you won't get in trouble. You will I promise you. That is if the cops aren't lacks and don't care much...good luck at getting a break though. Also the guy who thinks that the officers main job is to raise money...you're nuts. Hardly any police departments get money from ticket they right or anything. That state that the police work in get all that money.

Good luck.

If you are at a party and the police arrive you can be arrested and charged with Visiting a Common Nuisance (even if you are not drinking) which is a misdemeanor. If you are driving your friends home who are all intoxicated (and you're not) and there is no open alcohol containers in the vehicle, then you cannot be arrested. However, if all of your friends are drunk and there is open containers in the vehicle, you can be charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance or Minor in Possession of Alcohol which are both misdemeanors.

Good question: You must understand these "laws" are about 1 thing and 1 thing ONLY...to raise money. That's what an officers number #1 job is. Some don't even know that. They will tell us it's to stop these people from hurting themselves or other, bla, bla, bla...if you believe they really give a darn about some kid drinking you would believe anything. DUI make them 100's of millions of dollars per year.
