I agree. I think most of it is disgusting mercenary predatory profiteering. I am also Christian and I think it would be good if more of us said such things out loud so that people knew that televangelism does not represent most of Christianity.

TV Evangelist make a lot of money that is for sure. They are all on the list of Forbes 400 richest people in America. If you don't believe me go to TV Evangelists and print out a copy of their names. Then go to Forbes 400 and they are all on the list.
Olson makes millions on one speach. Playing to audiences of millions by TV. So the amount they make is no secret and the mansions they live in is all out there to look at. From the Bakers mulitimillion dollar mansion to the A/C dog house and gold faucets. They have fleets of jets and cars.
They remind me of the pharassees of Jesus day Rich money lovers. Who help the governments by contributing to their political campaign. They have a team of writers to write what they can say. They have to talk and not condem anyone or step on anyones toes. Kind of like a politician. They say be good but they are never allowed to say what good is.
One show was besides asking for money. Was clean the inside of the cup. Rather than the outside one man said "What is he saying don't take a bath?" It is an emotional appeal to cause us to let go of our wallets. They only mystery is what is done with the money besides make them rich. If they do build colleges and hospitals they are not free. In fact some religious schools cost more so the kids can say a prayer. Some are funded with government funds, but called a religious school.
Before you beat them up to much. The Catholic Church is not going broke anytime soon. Religion is big business and business is good. Also, remember it is all tax free!
No matter how fabously wealthy they become they don't pay a dime of taxes.

I think that televangelism can be a good thing if it is used biblically. Many of these televangelists let all the fame get to their head. They have to compromise their message to appease the general audience. That is where the real problem is. We need a televangelist who is humble and won't compromise the gospel.

Yeah it can easily be seen as commercial because of all the commercialism involved in television, but initially it was a great way to spread the word of god to people that wouldn't be able to attend a church. It helps people to get that holy feeling from home. It dosen't always have to be commercial. I first seen Mr. T preaching on television. His attitude changed the way I think about christians, and I continue to watch the televagilist channel just so I can hear his word. I'll never become a christian, but I'll always listen to Mr. T, thanks to televangilism. The trick is to just not donate, because they obviously have enough loot already.

The purpose of televangelism is to use people's beliefs to get rich. I'm going to tell you like a preacher told me. He said, "if you say that God is telling me that there's a lady out there who has five dollars. Now God said send that five dollars and He will bless you in ways you never imagined."
He continued, "out of an audience of 2 million, there will be at least 100,000 women with five dollars put away/to their name. Now that's a quick half a million in five minutes. "
You make generalizations and say that God is telling you this. That sets a big net for people who are emotional after hearing music and a sermon and they believe God wants them to send money. Thus, the televangelist gets rich without breaking a sweat, though others do break a sweat. I've most likely blundered the quote, but check it out for yourself...
Edited: See look at Loser's post, "that holy feeling." That's the same feeling that makes their senses dull and their pockets open to the con whether on TV, radio, or church.
Pro 5:8-13 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me.
To John- what about reading the word of God to be connected to it. You don't need Charlatans who are not connected themselves.

I
really like televangelism because it is bringing the Gospel to all the world as Jesus commanded....and 2. I like it because it bothers the ungodly soooo much....
I give thousands of $ to the missions and preaching of the gospel...and God always gives me 10 times that amount back.

Sure, there are some hucksters on TV, misusing the name of Jesus to make money for themselves. I remember Jim and Tammy Faye. But there are many sincere Christian ministers who are seeking to reach souls who do not leave their living rooms for church on Sunday morning. I had an aunt who never went to church but would watch the televangelists every Sunday morning. For her (and many like her) TV ministry is the only connection with the word of God.

Correct, the purpose is raising money. And while the money may go to a good cause, many televangelists still take a very large cut for their personal use.
