Depends... if you get in quick and they get it out earlier you can be out the next day.
If it ruptures or if there are complications you could be there for up to a week (give or take).

It depends on if you have complications or what condition you were in when you got your appendix removed. It is usually somewhere between 1-2 days after the appendix is removed. They will want to make sure that nothing goes wrong for a little while after your operation. Expect to stay over at least 1 night though, unless you have it done early morning and they think you are better by night.

I stayed five nights at a regular hospital and a full month and two weeks at a residential treatment program (aka mental hospital). The first hospital was for a suicide attempt and the second self-harm/eating issues. I'm much better now, though! The first hospital was nice, but got boring after a while. My only option was to watch TV as I wasn't brought any reading material. I also had to answer a lot of questions about the attempt. Plus, they pumped my stomach the first night so it hurt for days after :( I was also constantly monitored. I couldn't use the restroom or change my clothes without somebody looking through a crack in the door. By the time I left and went home, I was gross after not having showered. Surprisingly, the residential program (Silver Hill) was really fun. I met a bunch of other teenagers with the same problems who I could be myself around and even met a boy I later developed a relationship with. We played a lot of cards, watched lame TV shows, played Xbox, had grueling therapy sessions but most importantly, talked - a lot! BQ: If he brought in money ;) No, just kidding - I read a book (The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah, highly recommend it) where the main character's father was a drug dealer and he got caught by the police and they lost all of their money. BQ: Yup. BQ: Hell yeah.

When i was in Hospital for Gall Bladder removal I was in longer than normal due to Problems with Stomach being Inflamed and haveing to have a full Laperotomy a Cut 12 inches across the Stomach instead of the normal Key hole Surgery. Normally Three days at most with me a Week and a Half before i went Home. You are Safer out of Hospital then in with the MRSA bug Prevalent in most Hospitals in Ireland and UK.

Assuming no complications, infection, paralytic ileus etc. and the patient is otherwise fit and well only a couple of days post operation. Perhaps a day or two longer if there was peritonitis and IV antibiotic are needed.
When I was a medical student it was 2 weeks! The wound was dressed daily and the patient went though fixed stages, bed-rest, then up in chair, then allowed to toilet. When the consultant did his daily ward-round all the patients were sitting up in bed with the covers straight, the beds were exactly in line and he stopped with his team and talked to every patient every day!
Amazing how things have changed. I must be getting old!

It all depends hun. They do it by laparoscopy now and I have heard of many people being told they would be out the same day. I can only speak from my experience, but most of them stay in for one night. However when i had mine taken out by laparoscopy a few years ago i was in for a week (and they only let me out then coz it was christmas!) It all just depends how groggy you are after the anaesthetic. I was realy bad, but I've seen people come into recovery and ask for a cup of tea so it just depends!

My sister had her appendix token out on a sat and she was home Sunday evening. I think it all depends on how you are doing after the surgery.

well i had a bad experiance !
I was in hospital 10 days . I will share my story with you .
ok i was getting pains non stop for about 3-4 days .
Went up on monday to my hospital the doctor said he thinks im consterpated , so he gives me some things to stick up my bum that is ment to help , Anyway about 6 hours later its like 3am in morning and im in so much pain i go up to the hospital and im like in mega pain now , and the doctor still thinks im consterpated . . . . . . . Im like screaming look mate its not that ,this is mega painful and im like 21 years old , I started to cry as i couldnt hack the pain ,
So i get some morphine, Then they take me up to a ward , Doctors come in and he says he things its my ependix , So says he will operate the next day ,
Anyway comes the next day around about 2pm and the doctor comes in my room with about 4-5 other pakistatian people . . . . . .
So of i go to have my operation , I come out of the operation 3 hours later ? WTF 3 hours its only ment to take 1 hour max , Anyway at this point im still in mega main so keep taken morphene ,
The Doctor comes and see's me about 2 hours after the op and says that it was all septic and gangeen , He said it was really hard to get out and that it kept going back in ,
I was like omg , then i looked down at the scare thinking oh its only like going to be 1 inc cut , Guess what it was about 4 - 5 inc long cut , A cut that you cant hide :(
Anyway after this , I was in loads of pain still , I couldnt get up and go to the toilet , when i tryed to Eat Food i would be Sick non stop just like you have seen in the film ( The Exorcist ) No joke that is true it was really that bad ,
This went on for about 6 days !
In the end i had to go have a scan to see if anything was ok , Anyway come's back all ok so i end up leaving hospital 10 days in total for op that is like ment to be 1 day max .
This is 3 years on now and i still have the scar thats like 5inc long and i hate it , To tell the truth it still hurts me sometimes .
I think about it now and i think that when all them 5 pakistanian guys come around my bed they was all there operating on me . I bet the Doctor got them to have a go on me , Thats why my scar was like 5inc long :(
Well hope things work out better for u
