Do I need to contact the county recorder and have them officially add the bathroom to the record of the home? I'm probably going to be selling the home within 1-2 years.

Once the bathroom is inspected, and that comes in stages, footings, electrical, plumbing, ect, then a final inspection for livability. As each is green tagged by the building inspectors and the final inspection is done, it will automatically be registered.

It will be on the listing for the sale of the home. The permits are kept as a matter of record with the town. You don't need any more than that. When the new buyer shows up, there's a bathroom there. The more you keep quiet about what you do in your house, the less taxes you pay for things that you told them you have.
