I'm a recent convert and I was kind of embarrassed to ask this question to the missionaries but I wanted to know once and for all are we allowed to use condoms or barrier methods with our spouses.

Your use or non use of birth control methods is an entirely private and personal issue that you are free to discuss with your spouse. It is a private and personal choice that you are free to choose how and if you practice birth control. The LDS church teaches that one, among many, reasons for marriage is the bring children into your family. It also teaches that sexual intimacy is a blessing of marriage and a beautiful aspect of it.

It is your choice.

Yes, we absolutely are.

The church actually doesn't put any limits on types of contraceptive - they leave it to a husband and wife to privately decide that together.

They also leave us to prayerfully decide how many children we will have, with the admonition not to avoid them for selfish reasons (what does or doesn't count as selfish is really between you, your husband and the Lord).

Best wishes, and congrats on your baptism :)
