well, they feel important when they think they know everything, when in fact they don't. it just makes them feel awesome, because the person on the reciving end is upset.

Would you say that seeing is believing?
I went to Sunday school and was brought up to says prayers before eating. I'm very much into science and don't believe that a God exists.
I don't get cynical though, I just keep myself to myself. On the other hand, I don't like people pushing their religious views onto others.

My guess is better.
The majority of atheists here are interested in religion and having an intelligent conversation about it with everyone.
But when anyone is insulted as frequently and with as much vitriol as some of the Christians here lob at those who don't think just as they do, it gets a bit hard to maintain perfect decorum and patience.
Read the questions that are directed to atheists. If Christians refuse to turn the other cheek, why should we?

Many grow that way after time and time again of having God shoved down their throats by people that believe in God and the bible, yet refuse to follow it by letting others live their lives and believe what they want to believe. Have they not learned yet that there's a huge bold line between trying to convert and down right harassing people?

People love to challenge others who believe in GOD because God is an Experience that cannot be explained. How could one explain the difference scents of Flowers unless you both have had the experience of sniffing the Scent being talked about . God's existence is almost like that. You either have experience of Gods existence within you ,or you don't.

I think the reason a lot of Christians get defensive (I'm also one) when someone critisises God or speaks against Him is this: when you love someone, and you hear another person slagging them off or being plain nasty about them, you get really upset and annoyed because you know what they're saying isn't true.
That's the same for Christians and God. He's our Holy Father, He DIED for us and love us UNCONDITIONALLY. It's incredible, He's so awesome! Of course we're going to get a bit crabby if someone slags our faith off!

The point is Denis many people know there is no GOD,
If there is he must be an evil being, because he would know about all the terrible things that happen in the world including the
horrific deaths of innocent children and he does nothing about it
how can people worship mythical gods?

not sure ... because religeon is such a touchy subject ... but I dont think I've seen anyone claim they know for sure, but there are some very opinionated views on this subject
I would say a similar thing ... why are christians so angry and quick to judge others when they question God? ... and then at the end they say, god bless you, i'll pray for you

Well, when you mention god to someone who believes in him, they think they know it all as well, and they think that Atheists or Agnostics are 'unenlightened' and that 'they need to be prayed for'. I say believe what you want and let others do the same.

May be it's a bravado to cover their fear that there is a God. For they can't be 100% sure there isn't a God and the part inside them that is unsure is causing them concern but they don't want to show their fear so they belittle it.
That's my opinion for what it's worth.
