Rebecca:
calm down as u should tensed. You are married and since your husband is in the ICU, homeland is not going to come in and deport him from the hospital.
You can do a few things:
a. decide that you can't wait for his H1-B so file the papers for him while you are a GC and when u take the oath then file a change of status for him. The bad part of this is the process will be lengthy.
b. wait for the citizenship and then file the papers for your husband. In the meantime you have to just hope that Immigration officials do not pick on his case. Even if they do you have a valid case of serious health related issues.
In any case search for a good immigration lawyer in your area via "word-of-mouth" and sought his/her advise.
Good luck for you and your husband.

oh, goodness, honey! Get an immigration attorney's (one that specializes in H1B or permanent resident issues preferably) advice. Word of mouth can be a good way to get help or like Erika G says get a law school or charity to give you assistance. Your local library may also have info or a immigration clinic for you since you are a permanent resident (PR). You can also try http://www.ailalawyer.com/
Where is his sponsor while all of this is going on? Hasn't human resources given you any guidance on this? They are responsible for advising on his options especially if he is unable to work.
DAR is right about your husband not being deported, too. Just keep careful documentation of his medical records (e.g. when he was admitted to the hospital, any correspondence from his sponsor regarding his immigration status). Changing his visa status to another non-immigrant status may be an option but you REALLY don't want to proceed with that until you speak to an attorney. This is especially true because you are a PR and have hopes of your husband being one, too.
I urge you to get legal advice. If anything, it should ease your mind about some of your worries and hopefully, you will be able to figure out your next best step for him.

You should ask an immigration attorney. If you can't afford one, try a legal aid service. Or try uscis.gov, however, I think an attorney would be better in this case.
They will not deport him while he is in a condition where doing so would itself endanger his life, he would have to be stabalized. However, I understand that you want to keep things so that there is no issue of deportation, and I don't know where you should start, in this case. Obviously, he won't be signing any forms, right now.
That doesn't mean there is no solution, only that you really should go to an official source.

You really need to consult with an immigration attorney for this. If you can't afford one, you may want to check with law schools in your area who often have low cost or free clinics to help with situations like yours, or with organizations like Catholic Charities (you don't need to be Catholic to use their services) who often have programs to provide legal assistance and assistance to immigrants.

You need the services of an immigration attorney. Don't say you can't afford it. You can't afford not to have one.
