It goes something like this: "A man's true character is judged not on whether or not he's nice to others, but on how he treats those he doesn't have to be nice to?"

PLEASE!

Others have BEATEN me, to the correct answer! It WAS, indeed, Doctor SAMUEL JOHNSON, who made the ORIGINAL quote!

However, I think, that, - many years LATER, - the great Doctor MARTIN LUTHER KING, Junior, said something quite SIMILAR, during the course, of the famous "I HAVE A DREAM...." speech!

Samuel Johnson said it
IT goes like this "The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good."

"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good." That's from Ann Landers--don't know where she got it, I also heard it describing a gentleman.
