I have liked this guy from school for a little while now and he definitely knows it. We always catch each other looking at the other person and we always seem to end up in the same places. We've said "hey" a couple of times. On the bus I've heard him and his friends mention my name and the other day I ended up in a seat right in front of him. And his friend also noticed this and went, "Aww look" (and then called him by his nickname to get him to see who it was.) I had a friend ask him if he'd responded to a note i had given him, and he said, "I'd rather just talk to her." so I took that as a sign that he would actually say something( because we are both unusually shy around each other--but completely outgoing around our own groups of friends). I had thought about just catching him after lunch one day and asking like, "How are you" or "What's up?" because I really would like to talk to him...Is this a good place to try to start?

You should defiantly talk to him more get to know him a little better then possibly invite him somewhere like a movie or what not and see how he acts around you. If he is kind and nice then go for it.
