To me it means many things.
It means the connection between man and God(or better yet the cosmos).
It means man and his connection with air fire water earth and spirit.
Da Vinci put man in the pentacle as the vetruvian man.
The pentacle was one of the 7 symbols of the seals of Solomon.
Before the 6 pointed star(of david) there was the pentacle. It represented protection.
The 2nd photo the pentacle (Star of Levi) represents opening doors(opportunities) while at the same time the circle is viewed as spinning clockwise and "pushing out" which represents protection.
In ancient times the pentacle was a very good sigil. The last people who were able to use it for a good thing were the Amish and Menonites . They would paint it on their barns to keep evil away in addition to the sign of the Cross.
In times after christianity took over pagan ireland and most other celtic countries it was listed as something from satan or evil.
Hollywood made sure of it that it was listed as something evil. Now its the upside down pentacle thats listed as evil/bad .
The pentacle is highly misunderstood.
I use it often when I do the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram to clear out negative space.

The pentacle is a pagan symbol. You'll get people saying that it's a sign of Satanism or Satan worship. It's not, I'm pretty sure it's pagan, which is not the same as Satanism.

It means the mind ruling over the body, and the spirit ruling over the elements of the earth. The circle means the world is always greater than we, but it touches the star because we are part of it, not above it.
THAT is what the pentacle means.
The Christians that say it means Satan know nothing at all about it.
Edit: You're welcome Pangel. :)

It makes me think of my Wiccan friends, who often wear sterling pentacle jewelry. In general, it makes me think of Wicca or various types of occultism. For many people, it is a sacred symbol.

That is one of the two oldest known pentacles, the one pictured stands for good, if you turn it upside down it stands for evil.

It's like wind-water-fire-earth-spirit
It's a wiccan thing.
Upside-down (for wiccans) means the spirit is pointing down, into yourself, rather than up to the deities and such.
For satanists...well that's a different story
:)

Air, earth, fire, water, spirit - the elements of the world around us, bound together and interconnected by the circle that unites them (and us) all. Mine also has a lunar cycle around the edge of it, representing the cycles of life that surround us and envelop us.

Protection, peace, beauty, and witchcraft. To a Greek it would represent Pythagoras. To a medieval Christian, it would represent the five wounds of Christ. To a Feri, it represents sex, self, passion, power, and pride.
