If you won't spay your female you need to be prepared for him to go through this torment for 3 weeks, twice a year every time she comes into season. He'll likely start lifting his leg all over the house, too. He's not likely to be willing to eat or stop howling until she's way past her standing heat. They need to be spayed and neutered - this is not very humane to him.

This is very normal for him to do, things will get back to normal when your ***** is out of heat, your dog is just a little sexually fustrated, funnily enough my rottie has just gone through the same thing with me last week, he is now back to his normal self, as long as he is drinking plenty don't worry too much, if you feel he has lost too much weight take him too the vets, or just try hand feeding him some food for the moment, don't worry too much but if you are concerned then phone your vets for some advice.

He'll be fine. He's crazy 'in love' with your girl dog. it's pure instinct to want to mate when he knows there's a girl in heat. First, as soon as your girl is no longer in heat, get her fixed. There's no reason to have an unspayed female, ESPECIALLY if you have an unaltered male. he wil eat when he's hungry, I promise you. If you must, sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on his food, the little extra smell will drive him NUTS. Maybe even enough to stop thinking about your girl for 5 minutes. He's not sick at all. Bring his food to him to try ot make him eat, and make sur ehe drinks, but honestly he's just not thinking straight right now,and soon his stomach will make him eat.
I have to also say though, while hes not sick now, a week of not eating is very bad, and will MAKE him ill. Then you need to see a vet about boarding your girl while in heat and finding food he'll eat.

Put something on his food that he LOVES... If he still won't eat, you'll likely have to wait out your girl. Males tend to not eat much when a girl is in season very close by. They drop alot of weight, but once her season is over, he is going to go back to normal. Should get them both spayed / neutered, then you won't need to worry about it.

Don't worry, he'll survive, he'll lose weight but he won't die! This is what some males do when their girls are in season & the reason most people don't keep dogs & bitches together. If you don't want to neuter, in future you'll have to make arrangements for one of them to go into kennels for the crucial period.

Consider spaying your female, of neutering your dog as preventive care for a number of reasons. Healthwise, a spayed female is far less prone to diseases of the reproductive system, because she does not have a uterus, fallopian tubes, or ovaries. A neutered male, one without testicles, is immune to testicular and prostate cancers. As for behavior, you'll be spared the mess of the female's biannual "season," and your make will be less likely to lift his leg in your home, roam in search of females in heat, or engage in aggressive behavior.

If you don't plan breeding get your dog neutered, it'll save you, your dog and other dogs from a lot of stress. Do not worry, it is not very expensive and not at painful to your dog, and it would not make a difference to the god's lifestyle.

first, i need to say good for you! at least you are smart about separating them. everyone on here is correct. they do tend not to eat in a situation like this. their mind is on 1 thing! give it a few more days.your not out of the blue yet. they will not die just yet from not eating. i know that's easy for me to say. they are not my dogs. but trust me, it's whats best in the long run. get them fixed, unless there is a good reason not to. i mean, if you intend to breed them both later. if you do, your doing every thing right. don't sweet it. :)

Hi,

This is not just a Rottweiler thing, it is a DOG thing. Get them neutered or breed them. One or the other.

But dont put your poor through this any longer.

Thanks

Your dog won't starve, once she is out of heat he will soon realize that he is hungry, make him a nice meal, dry dog food mixed with canned and maybe a bit of table scraps to the liking and you will soon have him satisfied.
