Depends on how mature he is. If he isn't ready for dating or a girlfriend, he could still think like a little boy. I know when I hear of boys around 7 to 11 being asked if they like girls, it isn't "cool" yet so they say no.
If he acts like a child, no matter what age, forget him!!

There is a possibility that he is just hiding his emotions to your friends...and that he may actually like you. However, there is another possibility that he only sees you as a friend or good friend...thus he doesn't see you two of ever being a couple.

well if your friend asked him on the spot, it could be a quick reaction to being embarassed because he didn't know if you liked him back. or maybe he really doesn't like you. but you shouldn't take that as a sign. you're just going to have to figure him out on your own. and for future reference, don't have a friend as the guy you like if he really likes you.
