Probably for the same reason they claim that "in god we trust" on our money doesn't mean it's the christian god, but tell them we're going to change it to "in allah we trust" and they have a fit...
Hypocrisy.
Pretty simple :)

Because most of the people that read this are from the US or UK and the predominant religion in nearly all English speaking countries is Christianity, so the first assumption will always be from the Christian viewpoint.

They're operating from within their own frame of reference. Christians believe in JHVH; therefore they assume that when someone mentions God, they mean JHVH.
Many of the "Founding Fathers" of our country weren't actually Christian, BTW; they were Deists. (They believed in a Creator, but the Creator as they understood It didn't involve Itself in human affairs.)

God always meant the God of Christianity by our founders. In fact, 11 of the first 13 states required belief in Jesus and the Bible as a requirement for holding a position of public office. The constitution of Delaware, for instance, stated: “I…do profess faith in God the Father, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, and in the Holy Ghost, one God, blessed for evermore; and I do acknowledge the holy scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be given by divine inspiration.”

Because only the Judeo-Christian god is called "God." Other gods are called Baal, Isis, Odin, Demeter, etc.

"God" with a capital "G" is always the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and therefore, also the God of Christianity.
Any other deity is referred to with a small "g."

There is only one God.
Acts 4:12 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
