Im thinking I need a change and have always thought that I'd love to be a hair stylist although I have a pretty big "cough cough" birthday coming up. How old is too old to begin the profession? Also, how is the money?? I would like to possibly live on my own and help with childrens education. Is that far fetched?

You can become a hair stylist at any age. You have to stand for long hours going to school and afterwards when you go to work. It is long hours.

The money is good if you have your own customer base. Remember school is about 9 months every day. It just depends on your health. Talk to a hair stylist BEFORE you get into it.

My mother in law is a hair stylist and she was allot older and she came from Vietnam and only graduated the 5th grade and never graduated high school and after her 4 boys were in middle school she decided to go to beauty school and she didn't pass the first time she had to take the test like 4 times but now she has been a hairstylist for 7 years and she LOVES it the money that she makes she saves for whatever she wants to do with, its not stressful and she rents out stations around town, I don't think that you could ever be to old to be a hair stylist. You should be a people person and don't mind standing to much, the money just kinda depends on your clientele...I think you should go back to school GOOD LUCK!

You are never too old to do hair..I'm 19 and my stylist that I go to is in her mid 50s and I love her! As long as you know what you're doing and what people want...age doesn't matter. Depending on where you live really goes hand in hand with how much you'll make...just try to remember the expenses of renting your own chair...having a clientele really helps out.

Your not too old as long as your keep up with the up to date hairstyles. It depends on where you live on how much u will be able to make. I worked as a secretary for 5 years at the salon and never saw anyone make alot because our town is small and the economy is low. The main thing, stay professional not all clientele like to hear gossip. best of luck

WELLL, I DOnt think you can be to old if you have youthful looks.. and it depends on good you are wen it comes to money!but if you're workin in a busy area where people get they're hair professionally done then you should be set. but if you're SO old that you're sagging and tired, thats too old.
