I seem to have developed an intolerance to shell fish in the last year. Now when I eat it I get a stomach ache about 2 hours after and it lasts about 2 hours. What can I take to help me not get a stomach ache? I live on an island in the Caribbean which is why this is a major issue!!

Before I say anything about this, I will say that you should see a doctor first. You may find some great advice coming in via Yahoo! Answers but that is no subsitute for a trained professional. Shellfish allergies can be some of the worst and most dangerous allergies to have and anaphylactic shock is a possibility.

That said, you could talk to your doctor about allergy medications that may relieve symptoms. Ask them about treating food allergies as different medications work better at different problems (eg. hay fever, bee stings, animal danders, etc.) It's also possible that the reaction is not an allergic one. Again, only your doctor will be able to help you rule this out.

That's about all I have. Hopefully you can get around the problems somehow. I can't imagine living in a place like that and not eating seafood... I feel your pain!

It is very unlikely that the stomach aches are caused by digestion problems. People are commonly allergic to shellfish, and it looks like you are one of them. It is dangerous to continue eating something you are allergic to because it can cause anaphylactic shock - where you can't breathe. You probably have no choice but to stop eating shellfish - bummer, or maybe carefully track which shellfish cause the problems and which ones don't. You could make an appointment to see an allergist, and maybe they can desensitize you to shellfish.
