volume is generally a function of breath control ( if we want to do it right). there are too many people who try to push their voices out of their throats, doing their voices and our ears irreparable damage.
If you can laugh, you can feel your abdominal muscles, and your back muscles at your waist. these laugh muscles are also the ones we use when singing. They are often referred to as diaphragmatic muscles ( which is only slightly wrong) or belly muscles, or some combination of the two. 'Tany rate, that lovely jiggly jello feeling is what you ALWAYS want to be aware of when you sing. If that is stable, giving you a good solid comfortable feeling around the middle, your voice will start taking on volume by itself.
Another thing to work on- it's awfully good to have all that air flowing freely, but are you letting it come out of you as freely? Is your lower jaw loose and relaxed, or clenched? Are your molars clamped down on each other, or very gently apart? Do you have a lump in the back of your mouth where your tongue is all bunched up or is it smooth and relaxed at the floor of your mouth?
( Answers: loose relaxed jaw, teeth apart, tongue relaxed and smooth)
We can create a whole mess of problems by holding the sound in like that.
Remember, the sound we hear in our heads is not the sound the rest of the world hears. Listen to yourself on a recording, and compare it with how you remember it feeling inside of you. Some people go for the last-winter's-woolen-socks-in-the-throat sound. They think it sounds warm and rich and full. We think it's held in, too muffled, and a bit woolly.
some people go for straight-out-the-nose sound. They think it's direct and focused. We think it could cut butter on an icy day. Plus it reminds us of the good folks in New York and New Jersey, where the nasal twang is most prevalent in America.
After having blathered on like this, the most important thing to say is: Go find a good teacher. It's worth the money, because you are doing something that will make you a better person, not just a better singer.
the most expensive teacher is not necessarily the best.
Check with your school choir master, your church choir, your local university ( if it has a music department) to see who is recommended, and why. Avoid those who promise you the moon and the stars and 5 octaves in five weeks. Avoid those who try and fit you into their pre-ordained mold of how you should sound. Investigate those who are willing to hear you and work with who you are and what you have.
Best wishes
and keep on singing

well to sing louder try to open your mouth wider, but not too wide that just looks weird. go in front of a mirror and see what you look like.
and about the right wasy to sing, it is true that you are not supposed to sing through your nose, but you have the chose of a stomach voice or a head voice.

Goggle ur mouth with lukewarm water with salt in it... this makes the throat clear.

They say u've to sing from ur stomach n not ur nose.. I watched that on American Idol once.(They said it's insulting others if u sing tor' ur nose. I don't how true it is).

I'm happy for u ! Good luck ! :-)

sing from your stomach, not from your chest.
dont worry if u look fat.
start yelling with your eyes closed and gradually turn it into a pleasing voice....the more u practice the better you will get

tighten up your abdominal muscles and project from your diaphragm. You can put your hand on your belly and tell when you are projecting from there.

Lucky you...I can project but you don't necessarily want me to sing....my middle son asked me to stop singing him to sleep when he was 3...he just reached up and put his hand over my mouth. So I hum...........
