you could always go to your local rescue centre the dogs there are more in need of a loving home than a dog from a breeder thousands of healthy dogs are put down every year just because they havent got a loving home you should really think about it and if you do get a pup remeber they are very hard work its just like having a baby around trust me ive had to hand rear alot of pups and its a killer your better off with a dog thats about 6mths to a year old

I say it not worth it. No dog is worth that much. I say just forget and find a cheaper one. I agree with Eddie S. It is unreasable. I can understand if the dog is $500 or $600 but not $2000. That is way to much. If you really want then go ahead. If I were you then I wouldn't get it. All the dogs that I got was all free. Now I half to get rid of mine.
I say get a mutt. There are so much better then a purebred. I was born and raised with males mutts. I know that they are really good then the purebreds. You get a super cute, diffanert, loyal dogs.

You need to look around a little more - there's a lot of havanese available that are between $950 - $1400. Check out a few more breeders and make sure they're reputable, not back yard breeders. This is a breed that's made a huge gain in popularity recently which always brings out the back yard breeders breeding inferior quality dogs and asking huge money for puppies. Find a breeder, see all their dogs and ask a lot of questions before you buy.

is it from a petstore? when i was younger my mom had gotten me a dog from a petstore (not knowing anything about puppymills at the time) and it costs a little over $1,000. So if it is from a petstore I suggest not to buy it from there.

Find a reputable breeder. A Havanese should not be $2,000, unless something's up. Google "Havanese Breeders" and look around at price ranges. You will probably find one around 500$.

Good luck!

EDIT: here is a list I found of reputable breeders you could check out and give them a call/e-mail to check out prices and stuff if you are really interested in getting a Havanese.

Johnathan
If you are going to be paying that kind of money I am sure you can buy something from a member of the Havanese Club of America and get something show quality. In fact I bet you could get a show quality dog to be raised as a pet only from a show breeder for much less money. I am putting the club's link in bellow

If it's at a petstore, NO it's not worth it... If it is a reputible breeder and you can find out about the parents, meet the parents, it's a good pedigree, and you are getting a good health guarantee, and the dogs are raised in the house with socialization, and good health care, then it might be worth it.. Registered with the AKC/ CKC?? NOT the CONTINENTAL KENNEL CLUB, they'll register any mutt going... Stick with the real kennel clubs.

If you can afford it do it, obviously it's worth it to you or you wouldn't have put in the time to think this much about it. From my own personal experience mix breeds have a better temperment than pure-bloods, but I've never come in contact with a Havanese. Find out how the parents are, and do a little research on the breed.

Pricing pure-bred dogs is tricky. $2000 for a pure-bred Havanese is not unreasonable if you're getting it from a reputable breeder that produces high-quality, health-tested dogs with a good pedigree. However, if you're buying the dog from a pet store, you're over-paying quite a bit. I'd go to www.akc.org and research your breed and find a reputable breeder in your area.
Good luck!

What is worth it to you , maybe not be worth it to someone else. Only you can know that..If you want to pay 2,000.00 for a dog you need to do your homework on the dog and look for the things that makes it be worth 2,000.00. Including the records of both parents. Backgrounds on both of them. Vet records.

I wouldn't pay that.. but then again I am a Shih Tzu's person..
Just do you homework before buying a dog that is worth that much.

Do you make a lot of money? It is really your choice but, this dog will chew up another $500 worth of stuff when you bring her home, not to mention house training. I love my dog but she has definately cost us more in carpet stains & shredded books than the $70 adoption fee at the Humane Society. Cuteness is what keeps them alive.
