when a member of the opposite sex refers to someone as "my girl" or "my boy", does it always mean they are together or can it mean they are just friends?

It could mean that they are just friends, like I have known people to say..."oh this is my girl...." to mean they are friends. However I've also seen it used as if they were going out. You would have to see whether or not they are affectionate or the manner in which they say it.

If I said "This is my boy", does that mean he's my Boyfriend or Boy Friend? The same principal applies to your question, because if you have not been properly asked to be someones girlfriend then you are merely a "my girl".

Your question is not dumb and if you really want to know the the perfect answer to you question then you have to ask the person you heard say that because how that person says it and the body language used while saying it makes a huge difference.

Sincerely,

i call eveybody that, so i guess its not
a particularly exact name.

some call their lovers their "boy or girl"

i call my freinds that.
ill call my kids that.
its an... affectionate term i suppose.
