An owl pellet will have fur, bones (mostly skulls) of animals it has recently eaten. This is matter that is not well digested by the bird. Most of the bones are digested but larger bones like skulls are generally regurgitated in the pellet. The pellet helps biologists determine what owls are preying on in that location and in what quantity.

The other answers are right, but ironically, I was out with another wildlife nut this past weekend and we were examining pellets/casts from raptors in my area. They also often have bits of vegetation in them. I am not sure whether this is from the owl directly or if it is the stomach contents from it's victim.

my daughter had to dissect one in school. She said it consists of anything not digestible. I.E: bones, beak, fur, claws, teeth, feathers, feet, ect.
