I grew up in a jewish family but I rarely admitted to being jewish, because I felt it would be an excuse for others to cause trouble with me. It was especially difficult growing up and watching others enjoy Christmas - the songs, the decorated trees, the lights on the houses. All we had was a menorah in the window.
When I was an atheist I admitted to being an atheist, though I didn't brag.
When I returned to judaism I felt I could be proud of what I am, and I embrace more of the rituals and culture, so I don't feel isolated, even during the holidays.

Yeah I pretend quite a bit, but only around people I like which is a fairly select few, mostly old people. But anybody else I tell them that I worship the devil. I had a woman come to a yardsale of mine and began to testify to me. I told her I worshiped an old pal of Jesus, Lucifer and then asked her if she had any young virgins around that I could buy for cheap. She don't come over no more, and frequently shouts things out of her car window while driving by. And we had so much in common...

I'm an atheist. I haven't pretended to be religious, but I have kept quiet about my atheism in some situations. Still, even then I would have stated my beliefs, if asked.
However, I am going to marry someone who is Muslim. In order for my fiancee to be acknowledged as married in Iran, I will have to state that I'm Muslim. It doesn't really bother me much. It just makes me sad that there's still such stupid superstition.

I don't lie about my faith, but I don't shout my faith either. Many times, being Wiccan makes other people uncomfortable so I don't normally tell anyone I'm Wiccan until they get to know me as someone other than a passing acquaintance.

Not exactly, but when it comes up, I tend to just play along with the God-people. It's just too annoying and too much trouble for nothing to point out that I don't believe in God.
I bet Christians rarely find themselves in a situation where they just play along that there is no God.

No; I am proud of my faith and I would never hide it...
Go Christians!
I am an Evangelical Free Christian and PROUD of it!
Many people nowadays don't just come out and say it though...they may keep it on the DL...Like the Jonas Brothers are on Disney Channel and stuff, but in their "thanks" section in their album their number one thanks goes to Jesus Christ, their and my savior!
Aly and AJ are also Christians...they have turned down several roles on television shows in order to remain steadfast and faithful to God...you can see it in the way they act, dress, etc.
Believe it or not...Avril Lavigne and Pink were brought up in Christian homes...sad to say...

Speaking as an atheist...I have never pretended to be religious. I don't see why anyone would do such a thing. It is pointless.

I generally don't talk about being an atheist with people who don't already know I'm an atheist. Like it or not, it's not culturally ok to be atheist in America...and I live in a pretty liberal area.
