For the record: Lips close up incredibly quickly. I had my 4 month old vert.labret out for less than an hour and it required some serious tapering to get the jewelry back in.

Buy a clear plastic retainer, they should be available at your local studio for under $10. You will piss off your piercing a lot if you're switching the jewelry every day, so try to keep switches to a minimum (if you're working 3 days in a row, just leave the retainer in)

You could also try a labret stud with a flesh coloured bead, that way you can just change the bead when you're not at work.

Since it's an oral piercing, and oral piercings close very quickly. You can't be guranteed to have it open at the end of your shift. I just got a job that told me I couldn't have my lip piercing, either. So I wear a clear retainer in it during the day. But I don't put the plastic O ring on the end of it. (It's VERY noticable with the O ring. Draws more attention to my lip than a pink sparkly crystal. Lmao.) If you do that, just check every so often with your tounge that it's in there. And check with your finger that it's still pushing through the outside. (So the outside part doesn't close up while the inside part stays open.)

Are you allowed to wear a retainer? A retainer would make the piercing rather unnoticeable at a quick glance and you wouldn't have to worry about the piercing shrinking up while at work.

Leaving the hole for 4-8 hours is not enough for it to fully close, but it can shrink a little. And if it does shrink its not good for the piercing to try and force jewelry back in at the end of the day.

Try a retainer and if they won't allow that, decide whats more important: the job or the piercing

Everyone telling you that thats not enough time for it to close is seriously misinformed, it varies on your healing period. My husband has 20 piercings most of wich heal fast, he took out his labrets (he had 2) and they were fully closed within about 20 minutes, he went joggin one day and one of his frenum barbells was loose or something and if fell out and it was nearly closed when he realized it about half an hour later....so as you can see it varies from person to person...but a piercing can close in about 5-10 minutes if you heal really fast...so it just depends on your body.
i would suggest a clear retainer if you are able to get away with that.

okay honey, what you need to do is get a retainer. This is a small peice of clear acrylic with two gromits (like tiny rubber bands) that hold it in place. They are really cheap on e-bay, or you could go into your local peircing place and see if they sell them. Because of it being clear it wont be very visable. Just do a search on e-bay for 'lip retainer' or 'peircing retainer'. Hope this helps!

heavily - get a pair of pliers and latex gloves!!! I actual have a labret piercing and it has finished an analogous element to me on extra desirable than one occassion. Use the pliers to grip the interior the bar (in the back of the bead), positioned on the gloves to get a sturdy grip on the bead and change, turn, turn! If the gloves do not help, attempt a 2d set of pliers (i've got had to try this too) and use them to curve the bead off. If this is gunked up around the threads attempt listerine or dish cleansing soap to loosen issues up. desire this helps you, I sooooo be attentive to the way you sense! Oh, and robust success with the scout! Cheers! :)

If you're worried about it closing, you can also get a flesh or clear colored retainer to allow the hole to stay open.

If it is 4-8 hours, I really would not worry about it. I've left mine out for up to a week and they were ok.

Well, there are things called keepers, or retainers. They are clear and are not very obvious, but I don't know if that would work for them or not. I doubt that it would stay open for that long though...it is a relatively new piercing...

i can take mine out for days and put it back in no problem, but i've had mine for 4 years...
