It could just be a fatty tissue build up if it doesn't hurt to touch (which is really harmless). Is your son showing any other symptoms? Don't worry yourself too much. I know that's easier said than done, but it probably is okay. You're doing the right thing by taking him to the doctor's and getting it checked out to be on the safe side. But again, try not to worry too much. Good luck to you and your sweet boy!

little boys get bumps and bruses all the time if it isnt currently hurting him its probably ok (things you would have to worry about is if it were black and blue and swollen or you just saw him hit his head hard) so if he isnt in pain or sensitive to the touch just keep an eye on him and if it doesnt go away and your still a little worried take him to the doctor on wed. im sure your son would let you know if you needed to take a trip to urgent care.
hope this helps you relax a little

Calm down, its fine. Lumps on the head of a child that age can be ANYTHING, they fall and bang themselves constantly, probably half the time u dont even notice them doing it! If your worried ask a family member but i would say after a few days it will go down.

This is what I found on neck lumps:
Neck Lumps
A neck lump may be located anywhere from the top of the neck, in front of or behind an ear, to the bottom of the neck, just above the collarbone. The most common of these is an enlarged lymph node (a small pea-sized knot of tissue that produces lymphocytes - a type of white blood cell typically infected or enlarged due to reaction to an infectious agent.) Enlarged lymph nodes, which are usually harmless, are referred to as lymphadenitis. Lymphadenitis is produced by bacteria, cat scratch fever, and even atypical tuberculosis. If your child's doctor is concerned, he/she may prescribe antiobiotics or if the lump appears worrisome, may refer your child to a pediatric surgeon to have a biopsy (removal and analysis of a tissue sample from the lump).
Another type of neck lump is a branchial cleft cyst or sinus. This congenital lesion is most frequently found in the neck of children 2-10 years old and it represents an embryologic error in the development of the neck. They generally change in size and shape and are often first detected after an upper respiratory tract infection, which causes enlargement of the mass. Most branchial cleft cysts are located in front of the stenocleidomastoid muscle in the lower neck and they may have an external opening or pore from which drains a mucus-like material. Branchial cleft cysts or sinuses should be removed to assure the diagnosis, improve appearance, prevent infection, and prevent it as being a site for a potential cancer in adulthood.

we all have lymph nodes and some can be felt. If they do not bother your son when you push on them, he does not have a fever, does act like he is in pain, dos not feel any discomfort at all, then he is fine., If you feel around on your own head you may feel a few bumps that feel out of place. Very normal.

For peace of mind if he's showing signs of being in pain or uncomfortable when you touch it - take him to urgent care or emergency room.
Otherwise, call your doctors after-hours service & see what they recommend. My ped has a nurse on staff 24 hours that can answer questions. Don't hesitate to use that service if your pediatrician's office offers it. Otherwise, you're going to drive yourself crazy with "what if"'s between now & Wednesday.

I would take him to the ER or if you have a Children's Hospital near by take him there to be on the safeside.Espelly him being that young. Also DO NOT let him go to sleep just incase he did hurt his head.Dr's will tell you to never let a little one go to sleep an hour after that happens just incase they did hurt their head. Also watch for signs like not wanting to play or eat or drink take him to the ER ASAP.but just dont paniac though(sorry bout my spelling cause i know it sucks)
