I want to buy a 2002 chevy cavalier for $3500 from a dealer. But it's been salvaged. They claim it's simply had hte door replace and has been left for 2 years after he bought it. The carfax report kinda confirms it. Is that a good price for a salvage? Is a salvage car going to break on me? I wanna keep this car till break it in many years. HELP!!!

If it is a decent car and you can pay cash. Banks won't loan on a salvage title. Salvage title reduces the Blue Book value by at least 50%.

kbb.com show a private party price of around $6000 with 65,000 miles. If the miles on this one are good (less than 50,000) I think $3500 is reasonable.

If you want a car to last for many years, WHY would you go into a car that you KNOW has had problems? It's been salvaged and Carfax confirms it.

It might cost you more than a new car in repairs by the time you're done with it.

Do things right or don't do them at all.

Good Luck.

I have a 1995 toyota tercel that has salvaged on the registration and this car has never given me any problems, trips from ca to texas and plenty of 300 miles+ trips not one problem. I guess it depends on how you feel about it when you test drive, I would take some one who is car-savvy and get their opinion.

Raul is right. cuz it would be worth it-If you get the price at or under $2,000. Personally, I would offer him $2,000.00, and if he didn't accept I'd walk. $2,000.00 plus whatever processing fees are involved,it's barely five yrs old. You said Carfax kinda confirms it and I would like that assurance myself, but if $3,500.00 is too steep for you get him to lower the price ( At Least ) $1,000.00 to $2,500.00. I wish I had that oppty.!

NO - these cars are a POS even when they haven't been wrecked. Run away from the car.
