Getting your teeth aligned?

"Some orthodontists occasionally use attachments, small pieces of composite affixed to strategic teeth, to help move the teeth more quickly and to produce certain tooth movements. The attachments are sometimes referred to as 'buttons' by dentists and orthodontists and are removed manually at the end of treatment. These "buttons" are normally tooth-colored."

A button is used when a canine, or another tooth is impacted, dentist use it to “pull the tooth into position.” The oral surgeon opens the tissue, uncovering the tooth and attaches the button to the exposed end. Sometimes the button has a chain on it or we use ligature wire around the button. Then they attach the chain or a ligature wire to the arch wire and tighten it every week or so, keeping constant pressure on the impacted tooth to guide it into position. Hope I've been of some help with this.
