I'm writing a paper telling the importance of a liberal arts education to a designer. I need some advantages that classes such as English, History, etc. would give to a designer.

You'll learn how to form an opinion. Think creatively. Look at things from a variety of perspectives (very important). Personally, I'm an ad writer & author with a liberal arts education and I think it helped me become strategic in my work, being able to effectively, creatively and persuasively market a product or service. Many designers can make something look nice, but it many times needs to more than that.

As a designer you would certainly need to know about History as it has such an impact on materials available, trends, etc in design. (Plus exposure to the liberal arts will make you a more well-rounded individual!)

Well, English classes usually tell you how to write clearly and concisely, and that is a useful skill, no matter your profession. Classes like History and other lib arts classes teach you how to do research and form coherent arguments, and that's a fairly valuable skill as well. Lib arts classes also broaden your general knowledge of the world around you
