Just today out of nowhere, I began suffering from awful knee pain. It is located just above the patella (kneecap) to the left a little bit, on my right knee. I have Osgood-Schlotters in both knees, and I'm still in the midst of that, but this pain is different. However for the first time in about 5 months I played a full 90 minute soccer game, with just the usual pain, but now, the day afterwards, I have this awful pain. Could I have torn something from being out of shape? The pain is so bad I can hardly walk, and I need assistance going up stairs.

And if this is any help at all, I'm 15, so it's not arthritis or osteoporosis of the bones.

-Ben

Aloha Ben,and I had the same pain that you have. When I injured my knee, I could not walk either. I went to my Dr., and they did an x-ray of my knee, and all that showed is that my bones are all ok. What you need to do is have an MRI of the knee, and that will show the damage inside your knee. I have a torn meniscus, which is the cartilage in the knee, and I am going for arthroscopic knee surgery, to have that torn piece of cartilage removed, as my leg will not go straight, because of the tear. The surgeon said I will be able to walk after the surgery, and I will not be in the hospital overnight, but out the same day. On the internet is a website called the KneeGuru, where you can askall of you questions, and you will get an answer from a DR. as to what you should do. I would suggest, go to your DR., and tell him you want an MRI, so you can see what damage is done, then you can make a decision. Sometimes with a small tear, it will heal on it's own, but if you have a tear, it will only get worse unless you have it checked out.Do all the research you can. On my computer, I typed in Arthroscopic Surgery for the knee, and you will get all kinds of information. The best of luck to you, andI hope that knee gets better. Ron..............

My sister is 10 and the same thing happened to her. She was playing basketball and fell. It has nothing to do with being out of shape. It might just be a muscle you havent used. Try putting on some of that icy hot pads. also relax it. if the pain continues, you should see a doctor. you might have sprained your knee of fractured a tissue by the patella. Hope this helps.

This same thing happened to me but I am a lot older then you are. I am 46 and had a pain on the outside of my knee. I went an got an MRI and showed that I had torn a meniscis cartlidge. I just had surgery to have it repaired and the problem is going away with physical thearapy. Good luck!
