Excessive doggy odors have an underlying cause. Poor dental health will give the entire dog a 'rotten' odor. Over-active sebaceous glands will cause a wet-dog odor.(often thyroid problem)skin allergies (food related) will give off a 'corn chips' odor...Impacted anal sacs will cause a fishy odor..Improper digestion (needs different food) will cause a poopy odor..Unmanaged Diabetes will cause a 'sour beer' odor...and other causes for 'sour-milk' and yeasty odors.
So, it is best to get to the root of the cause.
Meanwhile, you can help by giving a semi-dry bath with Colgate's Men's Shaving Foam..Just rub the foam into the coat, to the skin, and wipe dry with toweling. (doesn't work so well with long-haired breeds)
Gold Bond powder is also fine, though not attractive for dark coats..

The smell from the dog is probably genetic. I would definitally not use an odor eater because it is most likely bad for their skin and can hurt them and would give them a rash. The best thing to do would be to go to a pet store or vet and get pet safe odor control stuff to help them. you an get it in shampoo and I think you can get odor control food as well. I would not use anything that's not aproved by a vet first. I have seen people spray pets with purfume and things like that before but I would ask my vet before doing that because it could have harmful chemicals in it.

Using any Odor-Eaters product on your dog is NOT a good idea.
If your dog smells badly, even after bathing him, there's an underlying cause that you need to explore. Most times that people come to me with a "smelly dog", it's not because the dog is dirty or has rolled in something. Most times, it's a medical issue. A skin irritation can cause odor ... so can ear infections, dental issues, internal organ issues can cause horrid breath too. Hypothyroidism, hot spots, Cushing's Disease, even allergic reactions can cause outbreaks that produce a foul odor.
I would seek veterinary attention ASAP to see what the real problem is.
Good luck!

Don't use human products on your dog. Check out your pet supply store. They'll carry all sorts of products for dry shampooing, etc. I won't bathe my dog during the winter so I use a spray shampoo that you brush into the coat. Works great on the odor, too!

It could be his dog food. The best doggy deodorizer I have found is Miracle Coat-use it between baths and the doggy smells nice and is shiny. You might want to check the source of the smell-is it his feet?dogs' pads can smell like rotten corn chips when they get hot. Is it anal glands? there are two glands on either side of his anus that can produce a rotten mushroom smelling liquid when they get excited, some dogs even get inflamed glands-they should be expressed if your dog is scooting his behind on the floor. Please don't use a human product on your doggy-it could cause dermatitis and then he'll be scratching.

Please do not spray your dog with odor eater. Use vinegar in its bath water. It will take away any odor. Just pour a half cup to its bath water. If thats not enough than add more. Good luck!!!

There are special vacuuming powders that are safe for animals to be by or even eat. I sprinkle it on my dogs bed every time I vacuum and it really helps! You can find this powder in almost any store. They will be in the cleaning isle most likely.
