Lord I thank you that JC keeps asking and I ask You to convict those that are willing to listen to your voice and choose you...and choose life. Take the scales from their eyes that they may see what they are doing (and help JC not to be discouraged no matter what people say.) In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

I think it's because most people can not conceive of what is in store for them in either heaven or hell. They have never experienced either the complete bliss promised in heaven or the unrelenting agony that is hell. Humans also can't get a grip on eternity.
What they have experienced in their lives is intervals of happiness and peace that are interrupted by sadness and pain all of which seemingly unrelated to how Christian or non-Christian like they have acted during those intervals.
So, the question becomes, "How bad can hell be?"
God's answer has essentially been, "trust me, you don't want to know."
For some, that is an insufficient answer.

I don't have to choose either one -- jesus was just a man like any other and has been dead nearly 2000 years, and hell is just a superstitious myth. Neither of them has anything to do with me. Or you.
I choose reason. Then I don't have to worry about superstitions and made-up gods. Makes life MUCH simpler.
Peace.

Really. Do you think people really choose Hell? Maybe they are just a little to intelligent to blindly believe what a group of white men "translated" thousands of years ago. You think? Maybe, JESUS wants us to think for ourselves...I sure don't remember JESUS mentioning Hell. Just Christians; and JESUS wasn't a Christian ( follower of Christ), he was Jewish.

The is an very arrogant question sitting on a supposition that you know what is absolute in the universe. Well I absolutely know there is no such place as heaven and hell as clear as you believe and just think I was raised christian and lost for a short time in my life like you.
It doesn't matter what we believe. It matter what will actually happen after your death. Christian that believe in a book written so long ago have no way of knowing the realty after death than a hammer. I sit very well in knowing my non belief in a God is of no consequence. There is no choice happening within me just knowingness as clear as you think you believe.

Nobody chooses hell, many of us feel Christianity is religon at gunpoint "Choose us or die". I for one find it insulting to think of the creator as less forgiving than the lowliest of mortals. "Fine, dont believe in me- I'll just torture you, then you'll be sorry" Does that sound like a benevolent creator to you? I'll stick with my nurturing God and Goddess, Thank you.

This is a very complicated question; for each individual is different; but in all honesty, in my humble opinion, most people would not chose hell if they knew the True Lord Jesus. The problem in many cases is not "why" people chose - it is because Jesus has been so poorly represented by us human beings with all of our faults, failures, hypocrisy and brokenness. For many, many years Christianity has been represented as the "perfect" religion and once you become a Christian you are suppose to be perfect - well of course that is impossible for humanity. If we "could" be perfect; then Jesus went to the cross and died for us in vain. Jesus who is perfect; came to set us free from our imperfections; they don't go away, but we aren't help accountable for them if we live our lives in obedience to His teachings of Loving one another as He loves us. - John 13:34.

Fear. Those who are accept Jesus are given the gift of salvation, but that does not mean we are free from judgement. Those who would choose hell over Jesus are afraid of being judged by our Creator.

Jesus, if he existed, is a dead guy. Hell doesn't exist. So, there's no choice there.
Even if, in spite of the evidence to the contrary, Jesus is alive and well somewhere. How, exactly, would one go about "choosing" him? I don't believe that any gods exist. I can't just suddenly choose to believe that one does. If you don't believe me, try this experiment... Try choosing to believe, deep down in your heart, that the moon is really made of green cheese. See if you can do it. I bet you can't. Either you're convinced of something or you're not. You can't just choose to believe something. Therefore, there still is no choice there.

Have you ever heard of a false dichotomy? You're question is one of the best examples i have ever seen.
Can you show with any significance that either of these choices are real things? Of course not... Further, are they the only 2 choices available? Within your simplified world view i'm sure they are, but to those of us who reside within reality they are not.

OR we can be atheists and choose neither.
What about people of other religions? Are you even thinking? Christianity is NOT the only religion in the world. Some religions don't believe in jesus or heaven or hell. Therefore, they do not go to either place. You go where you believe you will go. With so many religions, everyone can't be right. And just because so many people are christian, does not mean it is all true. It just sounds the best to those looking to convert.
