Because IE comes on the computer already. So people that aren't computer savvy don't know about it. But I agree Firefox is way better.

Not that I expect to get points here, but "what they said". IE came installed. Most folks don't specialize. Sure, Firefox is great stuff! So is its little-known open-sauce knock-off IceWeasel. So is Opera. So is Netscape in its own way. So is Amaya, for website developers, for offline testing. Some Mac folks swear by Safari! Each to her/his own... What came installed is what's there, and all they need, and good enough, so what's the problem with that, pard?

Because, believe it or not, a lot of people are not computer literate as you might think. Most people are computer literate in specific programs or systems. A friend of mine is very smart with word processing documents and databases but when I mention Internet options and anti-viruses, it's like I'm speaking a foreign language. Usually people dedicate their time to work and family and don't have enough time to be learning other things. Unless it's necessary.

having used most of the browsers over the years i can now say microsoft's ie7 is great to use. spware free tagged browsing, just as good as firefox

there is no best one, opera is maybe the better of all right now, but that will change.
