Hi i am thinking of upgrading my O.S but dont want to upgrade my p.c for a year or two. Is it worth buying Windows vista home basic or upgrading from xp home to xp professional. Which is better and i dont care about how much it costs.

Don't go with vista quite yet, unless you like tons of bugs and a slow computer. If you work in an office environment, a good key to upgrade is when your office upgrades. If you want something really vista like, try and find XP media center edition, I can't remember if it was a "packaged with new computer only" type deal, but, if you can get a genuine upgrade, legally, do it. If not, go with Pro, it's got a few more features than XP home.

But by all means, if you are not a mega computer brainiac, don't upgrade to vista.

If u really dont care about cost, go for Vista Home Premium..
If u have Vista Home Basic in mind.. pl stick with XP.

WAIT till Vista gets stable.

If u you use ur computer only for Internet and email, XP Prof will not make life any better..
Make sure you upgrade ur XP home edition to XP Hom eSP2.

If you go on the Microsoft website, you can download a program called Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. This will tell you if your machine need upgrading.

Even so, I've heard that bugs and problems with programs are plentiful.

I'd stick with XP, and only try Vista when you buy a new computer.

My next computer will be a Mac. I'm sick of Microsoft's lousy programming and ripping of customers.

If you do not want to upgrade your computer, then I assume its not going to run vista very well. You need at least 1 gb of memory and a good (not built in) video card to run vista. Stick with XP. There are applications not running properly on vista and a whole mess load of other problems.

The answer her is, 1 if your computer is up to standard it wont have a problem running vista, those of you that says its unstable most probably installed it on an old computer that will have problems, the pc i have it on works just fine ,not slow, very stable, now on the other hand i also have a pc with xp pro on it.. works fine too, quite stable but still suffers with (NOT RESPONDING) LIKE ALL XP OPERATING SYSTEMS DO...by all means leave it for another year until you buy and not upgrade an old computer, but for now here is a link that might help you make your mind up,PS dont listen to silly answers from those who think they know it all...hope this helps...Steve...http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_RC_1_Software_Compatibility_List#CD.2FDVD_Authoring

Xp sp2. Windows Vista will be a good solid platform a year from now but right now it has driver issues galore. Several programs are not compatible, and the system requirments are large. Plus, you can only install it once. Thats it.

Windows XP definitely. Microsoft have got to change their attitude in marketing a product that imposes so many limitations on the user. Vista is a DRM (digital rights management) of such complexity that even when you are a legitimate user of licensed content it still may not work.

Make or break time with Microsoft on this one but even if they win they lose. I expect a lot of very fed up consumers will change their tune.

you are better to stay w/xp for now, i havent seen anything accept problems and as when xp came out it took sometime for them to get it right! i'm sticking w xp pro for now! kceasy is a p2p filesharing network if you download it you can from there download xp office w/code and all for free, there you can also download xp for free. if you attemt this be sure to choose one that many others are downloading at once! you can also find vista, yet its piracy and there are hackers waiting! good luck xp office was a safe and good upgrade
