it's hot here now and that won't change, your still get some rain but not much, recommend you spent some time in the beaches in the south and sightseeing in Bangkok for a few days. Below is a web site which will give you hotel price ranges depending on your taste.

I've visited Thailand a few times and in different seasons and don't remember the weather being much of a factor. I think Ko Samui and Ko Phuket would be great for first time visitors. There are excellent beaches in either place. Get on the net and do some research and you should find reviews of hotels in every price range from foreign visitors. My own preference would be Ko Samui although it is now at least 5 times as big as the paradise I visited some 12 years ago. Yes, it is still growing and very fast but it's still tourist friendly.

Anantara Hotel, Hua-Hin

If you want something more general than a best quality hotel/beach maybe you will expand your question. I stayed there last April - very good. In April low season prices become available accross Thailand meaning that normal people can afford to stay in nice hotes. There was only a little rain in the late afternoon on a few days. Mornings, hot & clear blue skies.

It depends on where you are planning to go. Many years ago I spent 2 months in Thailand around the same time frame. It rained a few times when I was in the south but not usually for long. I don't remember any rain in the north but equally, as I wasn't lookinng to lie on a beach maybe I just didn't notice.

Beach-wise, again it depends on what you want. Tourist resort type places, full-moon parties, beach toys and jetskis - head for the bigger destinations such as Phuket & Ko Samui. More laid back, chilled out palces where you'll mostly meet backpackers - head for Ko Lanta, Ko Phi Phi or Ko Tao.

Sighsteeing - Bangkok (LOTS to do - and I really recommend having a massage at Wat Pho), Kanchanaburi (bridge over the River Kwai / WW2 graves which are incredibly moving), Ayyuthaya and Sukhothai (both ancient Thai capitals) and Chiang Mai are all 'must visit' places in my mind.

Cheap places in Bangkok are in the Khao San Road area but I would avoid them unless you're desperate to sleep in a grotty room with paper-thin walls or are on a really tight budget. Ask around on / check Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree for suggestions from recent visitors. On the islands, you should be able to turn up and find somewhere but if you want to book in advance, again I suggest LP's Thorn Tree as postings are made by people who are there / have just been.

Thailand is nice to visit at any time of the year. Weather-wise, it will depend on what you are planning to do while you are there.

Since you are asking for beach and sightseeing, I will combine both and recommend Phuket. You have some of the finest beaches in the world there. Plus you get theme parks to do your sightseeing. You can read about them in www.tourismthailand.org.

As for rooms, you can find selections on www.asiarooms.com and find one that suits your budget. Reviews from travellers are available there too.
