It kind of varies by where you work. Most work 12 hr shifts. They work 12 hrs and are off 12 hrs, but I have shadowed a few doctors where I live (smaller town) and they work 24 hrs on and 24 hrs. off.

Please do not listen to those people. ER doctors work 12 hours shift 5 days a weak. Usually up to or more then 70 hours a week. It is very long and very hard. If you work in the night it is even tougher. the times are 7-7 all the time 7am-7pm 7pm-7am nurses also work these hours but only 3-4 times a week.

Long shifts (12 hours), but just a few a week (3-4). There's some variability there, but that seems to be the theme. Most of the ER docs I've talked to really like it.

Most around here work 12-14 hours (the day shift doc works 8a-6p and night shift 6p-8a). Most are contracted for 160-220 hours a month.

I believe that it's generally 3 12-hours shifts per week.
