As far as it can. Jesus tells us to forgive 70 times 7. There really is no end.

Well, God forgives us over and over again each time we sin - sometimes each time we sin the SAME sin over and over again. We are to forgive over and over again. The Bible says 70 times 7 is the amount of times we are to forgive. It just means that we are to continue to forgive, even when constantly being wronged by someone, just as God forgives us continuously.

Now forgiveness doesn't equate to being a dormat or allowing someone to continually hurt you. You can stand your ground, defend yourself, do things to prevent someone from hurting you. Where forgiveness comes in is where you say to yourself that while you may not forget what someone has done to wrong you, and you may take steps to make sure it doesn't continue to happen, you have chosen to let go of the anger, resentment and bitterness associated with NOT forgiving someone. Forgiveness isn't saying that it's OKAY that someone wronged you. Forgiveness is saying that DESPITE what someone did, you are going to choose to move past it without holding on to anger or bitterness.

I still have not been able to forgive my ex-husband for the things he has done to me, my kids and my extended family. As a Christian, this is very difficult because I know what I must do, but am not ready to do it yet. When someone has been unspeakably cruel to you, it is especially hard to forgive. Still, Christ forgave those who persecuted Him and who nailed Him to the cross (all of us), so I can forgive my ex-husband. I do pray for God to help me to forgive because I know it's the right thing to do.

Forgiveness takes a long arduous journey from the head to the heart, some times it gets lost along the way.

Jesus can forgive you of anything. He'll do whatever it takes. Mercy's hand is outstretched and can reach you wherever you are. It is because of the love of God, just like your child could never do anything to make you not love them, neither can we in the eyes of God.

If we confess our sins to God and ask Him to forgive us, He will do so.

Remember Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins.

So believe, repent of your sins and be forgiven

God can forgive all sins but one. That one is the sin of conscious and knowledgeable disbelief--the unforgiveable sin.
